Dr Wade’s expertise relates to EU criminal justice, counter-terrorism, trafficking human beings and how legal and institutional developments impact citizenship.

A key aspect of Dr. Wade’s work is informing policy. Examples of this are the EuroNEEDs study (preliminary report published in 2011 and cited by the European Commission in its Impact Assessment as evidence in its proposal for a European Public Prosecutor’s Office), evidence provided to the House of Lords EU Select Committee and a study delivered to the LIBE Committee of the European Parliament on “Developing a Criminal Justice System for the European Union”.

Previously Dr Wade has provided expert advice to i.a. the German Federal and State Committee of Data Protection Commissioners, the Rule of Law Delegation of the OSCE Spillover Mission to Skopje, the international prosecutor’s office of the ECCC, the UNDP’s POGAR conference, the President of the German Prosecutor-Generals’ working group and the Dutch Ministry of Justice.

Teaching

Dr Wade’s activities focus on cross-border criminal justice co-operation and particularly related developments within the EU. Work focusing on the crimes of terrorism and trafficking human beings and their prevention, investigation and prosecution at a national, regional and global level forms part of this.

The European public prosecutor’s office and the concept of European citizenship particularly as it relates to defence rights are further focal points. Comparative legal scholarship constitutes an important component of this work.
